i took these colors from the original fluttuo logo because they represent the beginning of my passion. i started fluttuo because i needed to do something that i really felt was mine—i needed to free myself, my creativity and make something beautiful and really unique with my own hands.

the name fluttuo (i float, in italian) was born from the idea that wearing a fluttuo creation would make you feel happy and light almost like floating in the air. all the fluttuo pieces are unrepeatable. this means that every woman who chooses a fluttuo design will be the only one to own and wear it. i think it's important for each of us to find ourselves the way we really are, without following trends, but choosing our own style and soul.

while i organize my thoughts from this year’s burn, here’s a fond memory from 2008:

i was biking through the playa at midnight when i came across a colorful garden of glowing sex toys*. it was a solar-powered art installation by randy polumbo, a pioneer for off-the-grid living. polumbo’s art was the talk of many that year, as it bobbled slightly in the cool desert breeze. you can view additional work by visiting randy’s website. peter clark

today i bring you peter clark! i was able to view his stunning collage work in person last weekend at the san francisco fine art fair, where he was represented by rebecca hossack art gallery. peter uses his collection of old stamps, faded maps, love letters, buttons, and various other objects to assemble his collages. his mastery of color and shape allow these seemingly random items to form a cohesive and awe-inspiring entity. my favorites include franc, ten and a half, p.s. i love you, and too-2-step.

mike rivamonte

i am very excited to bring you robot sculptor, mike rivamonte. he is an avid science fan who grew up making anything he could get his hands on. his curious mind comes up with some of the most endearing robots i’ve seen. i want to be friends with edison, walt, and ace—complete with led jet pack! be sure to check out mike’s prints too.



my work is greatly influenced by my family. as kids my mom would take us to countless antique stores, curio shops and flea markets. during these ‘field trips’ i marveled over dusty scientific instruments, phonographs and other obscure mechanical devices. i developed a deep appreciation and interest of inventions and history. i picked up the love of making things from my father and uncles. my dad built our first color television set, all kinds of radios and our first computer. he could and would build anything. we constructed many things together. my uncles, one a science teacher the other a carpenter, fueled my inquisitive, experimental nature and appreciation for the finer points of craftsmanship.

paola zakimi

paola zakimi is an exquisite doll maker living in argentina. she carefully sculpts, sands, paints, and clothes each one. when finished, she captures the doll in a charming portrait. here are a few of my favorite little characters—abigael, girolamo, matryoska, and this unamed girl. you can adopt a doll by visiting paola’s etsy shop.



these colors are from my last painting and le petite cocoon. i am currently working on a new piece with similar light colors.

james roper

i experienced what’s known as a peak shift* when i viewed this painting by the amazing, james roper. other favorites include ‘cytherea explicates the enfolded’ and ‘the involuted submergent’. james is an artist living in manchester, who spends most of his time creating jaw-dropping acrylic paintings; however, he also contributes to a number of other mediums including drawing, graphic, sculpture, and most recently, film.

*james describes peak shift: i predominantly choose images and try to create forms which i feel register a visual ‘peak shift’, a term given to the phenomena of ‘neurological attraction’ that appears in both humans and animals to an extreme characterization of an object. peak shift has been suggested by the neuroscientist v.s. ramachandran as one of the ‘10 universal laws of art’. read more…

noferin

noferin is an art team comprised of nick (writer and sculptor) and candy (graphic designer). physically they reside in sydney, australia, but mentally they occupy a place known as carrara island. it’s a magical place where their small characters known as a pecanpals thrive. noferin creates these little guys by hand, from the 100% sustainably-harvested wood of rubber trees. you can get to know each pecanpal here—personally i relate to jac jac best. and on may 5th noferin is releasing naked (gasp!) versions of the pecanpals—feel free to stare, but try not to point.
